Non-invasive ventilation boost for NICU at Péterfy S. Hospital, Budapest
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Péterfy Sándor Street Hospital in Budapest is one of the largest level-2 NICUs in the country, and the relationship with the RBIF dates back to 2015.
Teaming up with our four Saltire sponsors from the 2025 Burns Supper, AstraZeneca, awol, the Budapest British International School and Taxually, along with our Auction and Raffle Sponsor OTP Bank, the Robert Burns International Foundation continued its vital support for the neonatal and intensive care services at Péterfy Sándor Utcai Kórház-Rendelőintézet with the donation of a WILAflow Elite CPAP device. This state-of-the-art respiratory support system is one of the most advanced non-invasive devices currently available for newborns requiring breathing assistance.
Péterfy Sándor Hospital, one of Budapest’s largest healthcare institutions, serves thousands of patients yearly through its specialised departments. The hospital’s neonatal services provide critical care for around 300 to 500 premature infants every year, helping the most vulnerable patients in their earliest days. This level-2 NICU handles over 5% of Hungary’s specialist needs in this category of care, which comprises babies born with a weight of 1000+g.
Dr. Gábor Boross, head consultant of the ICU ward, warmly thanked the Robert Burns International Foundation on behalf of the medical team:
“The RBIF donation was used as planned to acquire the WILAflow Elite CPAP system, a cutting-edge device that provides crucial respiratory support to newborns. This equipment ensures stable oxygen delivery and gas exchange while sparing infants the trauma associated with invasive ventilation. We are sincerely grateful for this generous and impactful gift.”
The WILAflow Elite device features precise microprocessor-controlled oxygen regulation, leak compensation technology, and operates quietly, making it ideally suited for sensitive neonatal care. Its arrival at Péterfy Hospital significantly enhances the ICU’s ability to offer safe, gentle and effective breathing support for premature and critically ill newborns.
For years, the Robert Burns International Foundation’s generous donations have played an essential role in equipping Péterfy Sándor Hospital with modern medical technology (for example incubators, ventilators), all improving the quality of neonatal and intensive care. The hospital’s doctors, nurses and families deeply appreciate this enduring partnership, which directly enhances the health outcomes of the youngest patients.
